There is one hell of a driving game here to enjoy, so long as you are left in peace to enjoy it. The latest entry in the open-world racing series delivers the same polished, arcade-style handling that fans have come to expect, with a massive map filled with winding roads, dusty trails, and stunning vistas. The cars feel responsive, the sound design is crisp, and the sense of speed is genuinely thrilling. When you are alone on the highway, just you and the engine, it is pure joy.
The problem is that the game rarely lets you have that peace. The world is crowded with events, challenges, and a constant stream of notifications. Every few minutes, a new character pops up on the radio or a banner flashes across the screen, urging you to join a convoy, try a new stunt, or enter a seasonal race. The game is terrified that you might get bored for even a second. It throws content at you like a nervous host at a party, never letting you settle into a rhythm.
This aggressive pacing makes the world feel less like a playground and more like a checklist. You cannot simply cruise from one point to another without being interrupted by a pop-up for a drift zone or a speed trap. The freedom that made earlier Horizon games so relaxing is buried under layers of busywork. The core driving is still excellent, but the experience of being in that world has become exhausting. You have to fight the game to enjoy the game, which is a strange and frustrating place to be.
