Video game developer Bungie's Bellevue headquarters hits sublease market

Video game developer Bungie's Bellevue headquarters hits sublease market

Bungie, the video game studio behind Destiny and Halo, is now subleasing its large headquarters in Bellevue, Washington. The move comes after the company adopted a remote-first work model and cut 292 jobs back in June. The decision to offload the office space signals a major shift in how the studio plans to operate going forward.

The property, which spans several floors in a commercial building in the city's tech corridor, is being offered to other tenants. Bungie had previously occupied the space as its main hub for development and corporate operations. However, with most employees now working from home or other locations, the company no longer needs the full footprint.

Industry analysts note that this is part of a broader trend among game developers and tech firms reassessing their real estate needs after the pandemic. Bungie's leadership has emphasized that the sublease does not mean the studio is leaving Bellevue entirely, but rather that it is right-sizing its physical presence. The company still plans to maintain a smaller office for collaboration and special projects, though details on that space have not been shared.

The layoffs in June were part of a restructuring effort that Bungie said was necessary to align costs with its long-term goals. At the time, the studio cited economic pressures and shifting priorities within the gaming market. Those cuts affected employees across various departments, including quality assurance, art, and engineering.

For now, the sublease listing is active, and interested parties are being directed to commercial real estate brokers. Bungie continues to work on its next major release, though no official timeline has been announced. The studio's future projects remain under wraps, but the remote-first approach is expected to stay in place for the foreseeable future.
