The popular battle royale title Apex Legends will officially end service on the Nintendo Switch platform this summer. This move marks the conclusion of the game's support on the hybrid console, which launched with a cloud-based version in 2021.
Respawn Entertainment has confirmed that players will be able to seamlessly transfer their existing accounts, including all earned cosmetics, unlocked Legends, and progression, to other supported platforms. However, any unused premium in-game currency, known as Apex Coins, will not automatically carry over. Nintendo Switch players wishing to retain the value of their currency will need to spend it before the shutdown or transition to a new, upcoming version of the game expected for Nintendo's next-generation console.
The decision is attributed to the significant technical challenges of maintaining a consistent experience and feature parity across all platforms, especially as the game continues to evolve. The development team stated that focusing resources on the core platforms will allow for more ambitious future updates and a higher standard of quality for the majority of the player base. Players are advised to watch for an official date announcement and to ensure their accounts are properly linked for a smooth transition of their hard-earned inventory.
