The Best Books, Movies, Video Games, and Podcasts to Check Out After Watching 'Interview With the Vampire'

AMC's "Interview With the Vampire" and its follow-up "The Vampire Lestat" have reignited a deep hunger for gothic horror and immortal drama. If you have already burned through both seasons and need more blood-soaked storytelling, there is a rich vein of material to explore across different media.

Start with the source: Anne Rice's original "Vampire Chronicles" novels. While the show adapts the first book closely, the series "The Vampire Lestat" and "The Queen of the Damned" offer a much deeper dive into vampire history and the ancient, powerful beings that shape their world. For a different flavor of undead fiction, try "Let the Right One In" by John Ajvide Lindqvist. It trades Rice's baroque elegance for a cold, brutal Swedish winter, but it shares a focus on the lonely, predatory nature of a child vampire and the twisted bonds she forms.

On the movie front, the 1994 film adaptation of "Interview With the Vampire" is a must-watch for comparison, but do not stop there. "Near Dark" (1987) is a gritty, neo-Western vampire road movie that feels like a punk cousin to Rice's world. For something more recent, "A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night" is a black-and-white Iranian vampire western that is slow, stylish, and deeply atmospheric. It captures the same sense of melancholy and menace that defines the AMC series.

Video games offer a more interactive way to sink your teeth into the genre. "Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines" is a cult classic RPG that drops you into a modern-day Los Angeles controlled by warring vampire factions. Its writing is sharp, its atmosphere thick, and its moral choices feel as heavy as Lestat's ego. For a more narrative-driven experience, "The Council" is a historical mystery game where you play as a secret society member in the 18th century, dealing with manipulation, secrets, and a slow-burn horror that Rice fans will appreciate.

Finally, podcasts can fill the void between seasons. "The White Vault" is a found-footage horror series about a team in the Arctic that uncovers ancient, inhuman things in the ice. It lacks vampires but shares the same creeping dread and focus on ancient, unknowable powers. "The Magnus Archives" is another strong choice, with its anthology of supernatural statements that slowly weave into a larger, dark mythology. For a direct hit, "The Bright Sessions" is not about vampires, but it explores the psychology of people with extraordinary abilities and the therapists who treat them. It captures the same interest in the emotional weight of being something other than human.

Whether you want more gothic romance, brutal horror, or deep world-building, these picks will keep your thirst quenched long after the credits roll.
