A new trademark filing suggests Sega may be planning to revive a side-scrolling arcade classic that has been dormant for nearly four decades. The company recently filed a trademark for "Bonanza Bros. Golden Heist," a name that points directly back to the 1990 arcade original, Bonanza Bros.
The original game was a side-scrolling stealth action shooter with platforming elements. Players controlled one of two brothers, Mobo and Robo, as they crept through buildings, knocked out guards, and stole valuable items. It was known for its cartoonish art style and cooperative gameplay, standing out in arcades at a time when beat-em-ups and run-and-gun titles dominated the scene.
The new trademark does not confirm a specific project, but it strongly suggests Sega is considering a remake, a sequel, or a re-release. The company has been actively mining its retro catalog in recent years, bringing back franchises like Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, and Shinobi. A revival of Bonanza Bros. would fit that pattern, especially given the growing interest in cooperative arcade-style games.
Fans have speculated for years that the property was ripe for a comeback. The original game has not seen a major new entry since its 1990 debut, though it has appeared in various Sega compilations. Whether this trademark leads to a full modern remake or a simple digital re-release remains unclear. For now, it is the strongest sign yet that Sega has not forgotten about its two bumbling burglars.
