Mojang has confirmed that a full sequel to the 2020 action spin-off, Minecraft Dungeons, is set to launch this September. The new game, currently titled Minecraft Dungeons 2, will arrive on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch on day one.
The original Minecraft Dungeons took the blocky survival world of Minecraft and turned it into a Diablo-style dungeon crawler. It was a surprise hit, drawing in millions of players who enjoyed the simpler loot system and family-friendly combat. The sequel is expected to expand on that formula with deeper progression, more varied environments, and new enemy types.
While Mojang has not released a full feature list yet, early details suggest a bigger focus on co-op play and procedural generation. The team has also hinted at a new "artifact" system that will let players customize their abilities more freely than in the first game.
Pre-orders are not yet live, but a standard edition and a "Hero Pass" version are expected. The Hero Pass will likely include cosmetic skins, a cape, and early access to a future expansion. More information is expected during the next Minecraft Live showcase, which usually happens in the summer.
For now, fans of the original can mark their calendars for September. The game will be available digitally and at retail on all four platforms.
