The world's premier fighting game tournament is back, and the numbers are staggering. Evo 2026 has officially released its competitor count, revealing a massive surge in participation that signals the healthiest year yet for the competitive fighting game community. Over 15,000 players have registered for the main event, shattering last year's attendance record by nearly 20 percent.
The three-day tournament, set to take place in Las Vegas, will crown new World Champions across nine main stage titles. Street Fighter 6 leads the pack with over 4,500 entrants, followed closely by Tekken 8 and Guilty Gear Strive. A surprise this year is the explosive growth of the Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising bracket, which tripled its 2025 numbers thanks to a major balance patch and a new character release.
Beyond the main stage, the open bracket format means anyone with a pass can compete. The event also features a record number of side tournaments, including a massive Super Smash Bros. Ultimate community-run bracket that is expected to draw another 3,000 players. With over 100,000 square feet of floor space dedicated to casual setups, vendor booths, and developer panels, Evo 2026 is shaping up to be the most comprehensive celebration of fighting games ever held. The action kicks off on Friday with pools, leading to the final day where eight players will face off for the title of World Champion.
