Capcom has quietly dropped a free playable demo for the next mainline entry in its survival horror franchise, titled Resident Evil Requiem. The demo is available starting today for PC, PlayStation 5, and the newly announced Nintendo Switch 2. This marks the first time a mainline Resident Evil title has been playable on a Nintendo console at launch since the GameCube era.
The demo offers a slice of the opening chapter, introducing players to a new protagonist navigating a decaying European city overtaken by a strange fungal outbreak. Early impressions from those who have played the demo highlight a return to the slower, atmospheric tension of the earlier games, with limited resources and a heavy emphasis on environmental puzzles. The Switch 2 version reportedly runs at a stable 60 frames per second, a notable improvement over the previous console's hardware limitations.
Capcom has not confirmed a full release date for Resident Evil Requiem, but the demo is expected to run for a limited time. Players who complete the demo will unlock a small bonus item in the final game. The demo is available for download now on the PlayStation Store, Steam, and the Nintendo eShop.
