Bungie Co-Founder Jason Jones Launches New Studio Stone Kite

October 2, 2026 - 10:53

While some studios are shutting down, others are just getting started. Veteran and Bungie co-founder Jason Jones has officially introduced a company called Stone Kite.

The announcement marks a notable move for Jones, who helped build one of the most recognizable names in the gaming industry. Bungie rose to prominence with the Halo series before moving on to create Destiny, a franchise that has maintained a dedicated player base for years. Now, Jones is stepping into a new chapter with a fresh team and a new identity.

Details about Stone Kite remain limited for now. The studio has not yet shared specifics about its first project, the genres it plans to explore, or a release timeline. Even so, the news has generated interest across the gaming community, largely because of Jones's long track record and the reputation he built during his time at Bungie.

Starting a new studio is a significant undertaking, especially in a climate where many developers face layoffs, closures, and consolidation. Stone Kite enters a crowded field, but it also arrives with a founder whose experience spans decades of game development.

For now, fans and industry observers will be watching closely to see what Stone Kite reveals next. If the studio's first project lives up to the legacy of its founder, it could become one of the more intriguing stories in gaming over the coming years.
