'Blood of Dawnwalker' Turns Time Into a Core Gameplay Weapon

Rebel Wolves CEO Konrad Tomaszkiewicz has a clear goal for his studio's upcoming medieval vampire RPG: "In 20 years, we want people to remember our game." That ambition rests on a bold design choice that makes time itself the most powerful mechanic in "The Blood of Dawnwalker."

The game puts players in the role of a half-vampire caught between two worlds. But unlike typical RPGs where you can wander freely and complete quests at your own pace, Dawnwalker introduces a strict time system that governs both story progression and character abilities. Every action you take, every choice you make, ticks the clock forward. Spend too long hunting bandits in one region, and you might miss a critical event unfolding elsewhere.

This isn't just a narrative gimmick. The time mechanic directly affects combat and exploration. Your vampire powers grow stronger as night falls, but so do your enemies. During daylight hours, you become weaker, forcing you to plan your attacks around the sun's position. The game tracks how long you've been a vampire, and that passage of time unlocks new abilities while also pushing the story toward its inevitable conclusion.

Tomaszkiewicz, who previously worked on The Witcher 3, believes this pressure creates memorable moments. Players won't be able to save everyone or see everything in one playthrough. The clock forces hard decisions, and those decisions are what stick with people for two decades. Rebel Wolves wants "The Blood of Dawnwalker" to feel urgent, alive, and impossible to forget.
