Blizzard has officially announced Diablo: Unbound, a new entry in its long-running action-RPG series that the studio describes as a "dungeon battler." The game is scheduled to launch in 2027.
The announcement confirms months of speculation about a smaller-scale Diablo project in development alongside the mainline series. According to Blizzard, Unbound shifts away from the open-world structure of Diablo IV and focuses on tight, repeatable dungeon runs built around fast combat and party play. Players will pick from a roster of heroes, each with distinct abilities, and descend into procedurally generated depths that change with every attempt.
The studio says the game is designed for short sessions as well as extended group play, with an emphasis on build experimentation and risk versus reward. Loot will play a central role, though Blizzard has not detailed how itemization will differ from previous titles. Early concept art shown during the reveal suggests a darker, more claustrophobic atmosphere than recent entries, with torchlit corridors and crumbling stone architecture.
Blizzard has not confirmed platforms or a specific release date beyond the 2027 window. A closed beta is expected sometime next year, with more details promised in the months ahead. The announcement marks the first new Diablo title since Diablo IV launched in 2023, and it signals that the company intends to expand the franchise beyond its traditional format.
