Black Salt Games has announced the creation of Team Trifold, a fresh indie development studio operating under the company's newly formed Saltworks Entertainment label. The studio is already at work on its first project, a game called Nothing Lost, which the team says will challenge conventional expectations for the roguelike genre.
According to the developers, Nothing Lost is designed to "turn the roguelike loop on its head," suggesting a structure that departs from the standard cycle of repeated runs, incremental upgrades, and permanent death. Few specifics about the gameplay have been shared so far, but the statement points to a design philosophy built around subverting the habits players have come to expect from the genre.
The formation of Team Trifold reflects a broader push by Black Salt Games to support new creative voices through Saltworks Entertainment. Rather than acting solely as a single studio, the company now positions itself as a publisher and umbrella for multiple teams, giving smaller groups room to develop original ideas with backing and infrastructure already in place.
Nothing Lost does not yet have a confirmed release date or list of platforms. The studio has indicated that additional details will arrive as development progresses. For now, the announcement marks an early step for both Team Trifold and the Saltworks Entertainment label, with the debut title serving as the first real test of the new arrangement.
