The Modern Warfare 4 beta has finally landed, and after spending a solid weekend with the multiplayer, the community is split. Some love the new pace, others are frustrated by old problems. Here is a breakdown of what works and what clearly needs work before launch.
Up first, the gunplay feels fantastic. Weapons have real weight, and the recoil patterns are readable, making every firefight feel skill-based rather than random. The new movement system, which allows for a quick slide into a tactical sprint, is smooth and opens up aggressive playstyles without turning the match into a bunny-hop contest. Map design is another win. The three maps available in the beta are dense with verticality and multiple sightlines, which rewards map knowledge and flanking. Finally, the audio is a standout. Footsteps are clear, and gunfire direction is precise, which makes sound a legitimate tool for tracking enemies.
Now for the downsides. Spawn logic is a mess. On the smaller map, you will frequently spawn directly in an enemy's line of sight, leading to frustrating instant deaths. The TTK, or time to kill, is too fast for the new movement speed. You often die before you can react, which feels cheap. And the biggest complaint? The perk system. It is overly complex, with too many options that feel useless, and it forces players to grind for hours just to get a basic loadout that works. The beta shows promise, but these issues need addressing before the full release.
